TITLE: LIES MY FATHER TOLD ME
    DIRECTOR: Ján Kádar
    PRODUCER: Harry Gulkin
STARRING: Yossi Yadin, Len Birman, Marilyn Lightstone, Jeff Lynas

SYNOPSIS: Seven- year-old David Herman is a Jewish boy growing up in 1920’s Montreal. David spends all of his free time with his Zaida (grandfather), a junk dealer. David loves nothing more than riding in the back of Zaida's horse drawn wagon, listening to his grandfather's tall tales as they collect cast offs.

A poetic man, Zaida instills in the boy a sense of wonder while teaching him the ways of Jewish religious life. David's dad, however, is a modern man with no time for the old traditions and believes that to make it in their new country, it is important to be Canadian first and Jewish second - an opinion that Zaida doesn't share. As the tensions between his father and grandfather grow, David feels trapped in between.

A classic of Canadian cinema, this sensitive, touching drama garnered an Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay and won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film.
