Inspired by Nikolai Gogol’s pivotal short story The Overcoat, THE GIRL follows the tale of Elise, a woman determined to be guided by her own sense of right and wrong. She lives a solitary life and devotes herself to her simple job as a factory employee where she is alienated by the derision of her colleagues. The target of their torment is her old, threadbare white coat.

When Elise decides she simply must repair the coat despite the cost, she embarks on a journey that puts her clear-cut values on a collision course with the forces of a dark world. She falls into a case of mistaken identities and becomes ensnared in an intricate plot that will change the course of her life.

This tour-de-force by award-winning Canadian filmmaker Darrell Wasyk (Mustard Bath, “H”) re-imagines the classic writing of Russian great Nikolai Gogol within an Italian Neo-Realist-inspired context. It is a bold-face exploration of moral decisions and finding truth in a hard world.
